9/27/21 – This is an excellent example of a rare “byf 42” Mauser P.38 issued to the Nazi military in 1942. It is a first-year Mauser production, where only 19,000 of these wer made, making it only slightly more common than the zero series or Nazi-marked svw 45’s. It is all matching and has the proper “Eagle 135” military acceptance proofs. There are some unknown markings around the serial number on the frame – it looks like it reads “3 3 4”. We are not sure of the meaning. There are some signs that the gun was “Russian dipped” and was cleaned at some point. In any case, it has retained about 98% of its finish. There are just hints of wear on the high edges and very light scratches/handling marks around the muzzle, on the barrel, and on the top of the slide. Comes with excellent bakelite grips and a period-correct Mauser magazine. The bore has strong rifling with some areas of freckling here and there and some light scratches throughout. De-cocker is functional.
