This cartridge’s standard weight 240 grain projectile has a listed muzzle velocity of 1,617 fps. (That sounds hotter than usual, but Magtech just used an unusually long 8.3” test barrel to record it.) The semi-jacketed soft point is steel-free, so it’s acceptable for target practice at ranges which prohibit magnetic ammo. Its rugged copper-alloy jacket gives the SJSP the strength it needs to resist fragmentation as it bores a deep tunnel through soft tissue. Its exposed lead core will rapidly deform as it meets resistance from soft tissue, thus assuring the terminal performance requisite for effective hunting and self-defense.
This cartridge’s SJSP projectile does not technically qualify as a hollow point. Take note if you’re looking for hunting or everyday carry 44 Mag ammo to use in jurisdictions that have banned hollow points for those respective applications.
Magtech loads this ammo with brand new reloadable brass cases, as well as Boxer primers and propellant that won’t produce accelerated barrel fouling.
