Description
Federal’s HST line of ammunition is consistently ranked among the very best for self-defense. Our new customers often ask us what kind of ammo they should buy for their 9mm handguns. We direct them to this page.
This cartridge is loaded with a 147 bullet – heavy, which means it offers a subsonic muzzle velocity that is good for suppressor use. The HST bullet is a jacketed hollow point, with a nose cavity engineered to resist clogging with fabric and other debris that could have inhibited terminal expansion.
The HST’s tough copper jacket and core consistently retain 100 percent of their weight until it comes to a rest in soft tissue. This is part of the reason why the bullet performs so well on the FBI test protocol; it mushrooms to a uniform width, avoids underpenetration which could result in too shallow a wound channel to effectively neutralize a threat, and avoids overpenetration that could jeopardize innocent bystanders.
This ammo is also designed for smooth performance. Its bullet’s nose profile and sleek, nickel-plated brass case both prevent jamming. Nickel is also corrosion resistant, as well as reflective to make it easier to see the round in the chamber.
