Original Item: Only one Available. This is an Austrian M1854 Lorenz Percussion musket, most probably imported for use in the Civil War. After that, it was then cut to half stock for civilian use.This musketfeatures a round to octagonal28 inch barrel, with faded proof marks and some numbers stamped near the breech.It also featuresiron mounts, including a “Jaeger” style trigger guard, with a nice cheek rest on the left side of the butt stock.
The lock of this example still bears the Austrian Imperial Eagle on the lock plate tail, as well as a date of 861, for 1861, which puts it perfectly into the U.S. Civil War Time Frame. There is also the marking X 45 on the lock plate, as well as the trigger guard.
The front and rear sights have been removed, as well as the rear sling swivel, typical for a fowling piece. A small ramrod pipe was added under the front of the barrel, which also appears to have been turned down slightly and smoothbored. A stained wooden dowel has been installed as a ramrod, but we do not believe that it is original.
From about 100 years storage in remarkably solid condition showing some rust pits from use. Ready to display!
